The 2025 awards season has officially arrived in style. Golden style.
The Golden Globe Awards were held in Los Angeles on Sun., Jan. 5 at the iconic Beverly Hilton, with the carpet kicking off around 6 p.m. EST and the official ceremony beginning at 8 p.m. EST.
As per usual, the Globes honored the best and buzziest TV shows and movies. The night’s biggest film winner was musical Emilia Pérez, while on the TV side of things Shōgun and Hacks reigned victorious.
PEOPLE covered all the winners as they were announced, but also reported live from the red carpet ahead of the big show, sharing every celebrity style moment, cast reunion and couple’s night out.

After some brief comments from director Jacques Audiard, titular star Karla Sofía Gascón gave an emotional acceptance speech.
“You can maybe put us in jail, you can beat us up, but you never can take away our soul, our existence, our identity,” the trans actress said, adding, “I am who I am, not who you want.”

He did speak, however, about having to fight to release his cut of the movie. Corbet revealed, “I was told my film wouldn’t work.”
“I was told that this film was in distributable. I was told that no one would come out and see it,” he explained. Yet, “Films don’t exist without the filmmakers. Please. Let’s support them.”

During a lengthy and emotional acceptance speech, Brody reflected on his own career journey and shared the message of his film,The Brutalist.

“I will cherish this moment forever,” said Brody.
He also gave a shout-out to girlfriend Georgina Chapman, praising her “resilience.” Chapman was previously married to Harvey Weinstein.

Torres stars in foreign language film I’m Still Here.
“I didn’t prepare anything because I was glad already and this is such an amazing year for female performances,” said Torres. “So many actresses here that I admire so much.”
She also paid tribute to her mother, Fernanda Montenegro, a fellow Brazilian actress who “was here 25 years ago.” Montenegro appeared in 1999’s Central Station.

Shōgun was victorious twice more during Sunday’s Globes broadcast.
First, star Anna Sawai won best performance by a female actor in a television series – drama for her role as Toda Mariko in the series.
Then, the series overall won best television series — drama.

PEOPLE also caught some fun celebrity moments, including Gomez and Blanco singing along to her song “Good for You” and Zendaya giving her Dune costar Timothée Chalamet and his girlfriend Kylie Jenner a hug. Jake Gyllenhaal also stopped to say hello to Jesse Plemmons, while Naomi Watts got an assist in fixing her dress from hubby Billy Crudup.

Series co-creator Paul W. Downs accepted the award, telling the gathered audience, “We are so lucky to get to tell this story … We’re honored to be in this room with all of these storytellers.”

“I just want to say The Bear really opened my eyes about the severity of cocaine addiction in the bear community,” said McCarthy.
“I think that’s Cocaine Bear, which was a movie,” her co-presenter Awkwafina corrected.
McCarthy retorted, “Okay, I still want to use my platform to raise awareness about bear-related cocaine addiction in film or television.”
McCarthy also chose to “invoke my advocacy and go on record as being against murders in condos and townhouses, duplexes and, of course, on water craft.”

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier costars Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie shared a sweet moment together after the former won a Golden Globe for his film A Different Man on Jan. 5.
The pair was captured hugging backstage as Stan showed off his trophy.
Earlier, when Mackie was presenting onstage with new Marvel member Harrison Ford, he laughed and told the audience, “We’re still friends with Sebastian Stan by the way.”

Diesel presented the award for cinematic and box office achievement at the 2025 Golden Globe awards, pausing during his introduction to say, simply, “Hi Dwayne” to Johnson in the audience.
The camera cut to Johnson, who gave a subtle smile in response.
Johnson posted on X in 2023, though, that he and Fast & Furious franchise costar Diesel had “put all the past behind us.” Wrote Johnson, “We’ll lead with brotherhood and resolve — and always take care of the franchise, characters & FANS that we love.”
Wicked was the ultimate winner of the cinematic and box office achievement award.

He assured the crowd that his eyesight is “not as bad as it seems,” before jokingly thanking his fellow presenter “Rihanna” — aka Brandi Carlile.
John revealed in December “I have lost my sight” after having some “issues.”
The iconic singer ultimately gave the award to Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross for their Challengers soundtrack.

He also praised his stepdad during the powerful speech. “This is for my mom, who left Romania in search of a better life, gave me everything, and for my stepfather, Tony, who took on a single mom and a grown up kid. Thank you for being a real man.”

Moore was awarded the best performance by a female actor in a motion picture – musical or comedy for her turn as Elisabeth Sparkle in horror film The Substance.

“This is the first time I’ve ever won anything as an actor, and I’m just so humbled and so grateful,” she said.
Choking up during her speech, Moore recalled how, earlier in her career, a director had diminished her as a “popcorn actress.”
Moore internalized the comment, and watched her career wax and wane — until coming across the “absolutely bonkers script” for The Substance.
“The universe told me that you’re not done,” she told the audience at the Beverly Hilton, later praising, “The people who’ve believed in me when I haven’t believed in myself.”

White has been on the East Coast filming Deliver Me from Nowhere, the Bruce Springsteen biopic.

During her speech, Gunning reflected on being 8 years old and getting a hamster for Christmas. At the time, she felt, “I can’t believe this is happening to me.”
That mantra has been a theme for Gunning post Baby Reindeer, she said: “Eight year old me, she’d be absolutely chuffed to bits.”

The Japanese actor thanked his fellow Shōgun castmembers for sharing this amazing journey during his acceptance speech.

He then delivered a message for up-and-coming actors and actresses: “Never give up.”

Zendaya stepped out in a burnt-orange ball gown and matching pumps. Selena Gomez, too, went Old Hollywood in a pale, Cinderella blue Prada gown. Gomez’s hair, like Zendaya’s, was pinned up in big 1950s curls.
Nicole Kidman and Demi Moore opted for superstar shine. Moore sparkled in a structural Armani Privé gold dress, while fellow nominee Kidman picked a rhinestoned, custom-made Balenciaga gown.

While chatting with E!’s Zuri Hall during the preshow on Jan. 5, Elle revealed that Dakota brought their grandmother as her date. “We got ready together all in the same room,” said Elle.
Dakota is nominated for best female supporting actor for her role in Netflix’s Ripley (“I hope she wins,” said Elle). Dakota’s film A Complete Unknown is up for best motion picture — drama.
