Fans Grossed Out by Image of Will Howard’s Hand Injury in Cotton Bowl vs. Texas

Ohio State Buckeyes quarterback Will Howard played just about as well as he has all season in the first half of Cotton Bowl against the Texas Longhorns, hitting his open receivers and driving his team down the field with little issue.

However, midway through the second quarter, the ESPN broadcast picked up on an apparent hand injury that the Ohio State quarterback had been dealing with. Howard has a large knot on the back of his left hand around the middle knuckle.

It didn’t appear to be impacting him at all since it is on his non-throwing hand, but it certainly appeared to be painful and possibly something that could impact him with the amount of hits he takes.

When fans got a look at the hand during an Ohio State offensive drive, they had plenty of visceral reactions on social media.

“Will Howard has a BLOW UP on his hand,” Pat McAfee said on Twitter.

“Looking at Will Howard’s hand right now makes me want to puke,” the Bovada account said.

“WTF is going on w/ Ohio State Buckeye QB Will Howard left hand?” one fan asked.

While Howard’s hand looked gruesome, it didn’t impact him much. He threw for over 200 yards and a touchdown in the first half and led Ohio State to a 14-7 halftime lead.

The Buckeyes scored on their first drive of the game — an easy 10-play drive that was capped off by a Quinshon Judkins run — and Howard connected with TreVeyon Henderson for a 75-yard touchdown strike with 13 seconds left in the second quarter.
