Inauguration Day 2025 Live Updates: Trump vows sweeping executive orders

Monday’s inauguration marks President-elect Donald Trump’s second term in office. This is the 60th presidential inauguration, where Trump will officially become both the 45th and 47th president of the United States and JD Vance will become the 50th vice president.

Trump energized a packed crowd at Washington’s Capital One Arena on the eve of his White House return, vowing to take immediate action to reshape the federal government and reverse what he called “four long years of American decline.”

Addressing thousands of supporters at the “Make America Great” victory rally, Trump promised sweeping changes from his first day in office. He pledged to crack down on the U.S.-Mexico border, expand domestic oil drilling, reduce the federal workforce, and eliminate diversity programs—all key elements of his campaign platform.

The 20,000-plus seat arena was nearly full as Trump reiterated his commitment to delivering on his promises at “breakneck speed,” signaling a dramatic shift in federal priorities as his administration prepares to take office.

05:26 AM EST Eight events typically take place on Inauguration Day.

By tradition, the outgoing president accompanies the president-elect to the Capitol for the swearing-in ceremony. Most presidents ride to their inaugurations, save for Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson, who walked.

Next is the vice president’s swearing-in ceremony, followed by the president’s.

The swearing-in ceremony will begin at noon EST.

The parade will begin around 2:30 p.m. EST.

The lawmakers will gather at the East Front of the Capitol following the luncheon. The parade begins on Pennsylvania Avenue and Constitution Avenue. It continues past the archives and Federal Triangle. At The Ellipse, the parade turns on 15th Street to return to Pennsylvania Avenue, ending at 17th Street at the White House.

Inauguration Day proceedings will air live on ABC, CBS, CNN, CSPAN, NBC, Fox News and PBS.
