JD Vance became the third-youngest vice president sworn into office Monday. The 40-year-old will serve alongside President Donald Trump, who won the election over Vice President Kamala Harris.

The Middletown native was sworn in as the country’s 50th vice president just two years after assuming his first public office as an Ohio senator.

Vance’s rise to fame began with his best-selling memoir, “Hillbilly Elegy,” which detailed his experiences with poverty and abuse during his upbringing. He paints himself as a family man and has been open about wanting people to have more kids.

JD Vance and his wife, Usha Vance, have three young children: Ewan, 7, Vivek, 4, and Mirabel, who is 2 years old, according to People magazine.

Vance and his family live in the East Walnut Hills neighborhood of Cincinnati. The vice president also bought a $1.5 million home in Alexandria, Virginia, in 2023, Politico reporter Daniel Lippman posted on social media.

While the vice president’s office is on the grounds of the White House, Vance’s official residence while he serves as vice president is located at the United States Naval Observatory in Washington, D.C., according to the White House.
