Technical issues at Capital One are causing problems with accounts, deposits and payment processing.
The tracking site downdetector.com shows people reporting problems with online logins, account balances and deposits as of Friday morning. On Thursday, the bank said in a series of posts on X it was “experiencing a technical issue with a third-party vendor that is temporarily impacting some account services, deposits, and payment processing for portions of our consumer, small business, and commercial bank.”
“We know it’s important to have your money when you need it, so we apologize for any inconvenience this is causing and we appreciate your patience while we work to get this resolved,” it added.
The bank said it is “actively working” with the vendor to resolve the issue and restore services.
On Friday morning, more than 3,000 people were reporting issues to Downdetector.com with most issues involving direct deposit. That means people might not see their paychecks showing in their accounts or would be unable to access their funds, something prompting outrage on social media.
“So I come home today after working my 10-hour shift expecting to go buy groceries before the freeze and potential snow in a few days and to my surprise, my paycheck isn’t in my account. Highly inconvenient. I guess I’m starving today,” one user said on X.
“How are you going to make this right?? We’re getting hit with late fees because of this,” another added.
Capital One responded saying it would take care for “all reasonable fees incurred as a result of this incident.”
CNN reported users of the Capital One app are greeted with a message that says they are experiencing technical issues. The network identified the third-party vendor as FIS Global which provides services to several banks.
FIS told CNN the issue was a power outage and that it expects repair work to be completed today but no timeframe was given.
