Cooper Flagg scored 42 points and broke Duke’s single-game scoring record by a freshman during the Blue Devils’ 86-78 win over Notre Dame on Saturday afternoon.
The highly-touted Flagg moved past Zion Williamson (35 points, 2019 vs. Syracuse) on Duke’s all-time list among freshmen. He also became the first Duke player to reach the 40-point mark in a game since JJ Redick did it against Virginia in Jan. 2006 and set the ACC freshman record.
Jared McCain (35), Redick (34) and Marvin Bagley III (34) are next on the Blue Devils’ single-game freshman scoring list.
While reaching the 30-point and 40-point marks for the first time with No. 4 Duke, Flagg hit a career-high four 3-pointers, 11 shots from the field and 17 free throws. He also matched a career-high with seven assists and threw down another big dunk.
Flagg and the Blue Devils will look to extend their 10-game winning streak on Tuesday against the Miami Hurricanes.
