HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — Multiple rounds of storms Saturday lead to heavy rain, strong winds, and even tornado warnings across the Tennessee Valley. The heavy rain led to ponding on roads, flooding issues, and supported downed trees.
Rain totals ranged from just nearly 0.50 inches of rain to about 7 inches!
The heaviest rain fell across Northwest Alabama, specifically Franklin, Colbert, and even Lauderdale counties. Many roads at one point were deemed impassable due to water flowing over the roadway. As the water slowly recedes, attention will turn to the rapid rise in creeks, rivers, and streams.
The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Warning for the Paint Rock River at Woodville until 4 a.m. Tuesday. The river is forecast to rise above the flood stage early Sunday morning and then crest just below 19 feet early Monday morning. The river is forecast to fall below flood stage by Tuesday morning. The flood stage is 15 feet.
At 19 feet water will begin to cover Alabama State Route 65, about two miles north of U.S Highway 72. Several County Roads in the Paint Rock Valley are flooded, including Jackson County Road 20.
The NWS has issued a Flood Warning for the Flint River at Brownsboro until 11:12 a.m. Monday. The river is forecast to rise above the flood stage early Sunday morning and then crest to 20.5 feet Sunday afternoon. The river is forecast to fall below flood stage late Monday afternoon. The flood stage is 17 feet.
At 20 feet backwater from a nearby tributary added to floodwaters from the Flint River both reach a small bridge on Brownsboro Road. This crest compares to a crest of 20.4 feet on April 4, 2000.
The NWS has issued a Flood Warning for the Big Nance Creek at Courtland until 6:42 p.m. Monday. The river is forecast to rise above the flood stage early Sunday morning and then crest just below 17 feet Sunday evening. The river is forecast to fall below flood stage by Monday Afternoon. The flood stage for this creek is 14 feet.
At 16 feet, water begins to cover roads south of downtown Courtland. This crest compares to a crest of 17 feet on July 10, 1940.
