Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s latest business collaboration was also likely their most profitable. The superstar couple recently sold their completely renovated Bel Air mansion for a whopping $17.8 million—and, according to Million Dollar Listing’s Josh Altman, it was due in no small part to the pair’s keen eye for detail.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's former Bel Air mansion.

“Kim’s always a pro, and is extremely savvy when it comes to real estate,” Altman tells Architectural Digest. He and his brother, Matt, represented both Kardashian and West and the new buyer, entrepreneur and philanthropist Marina Acton, in the sale. “It was cool to see the transformation of the house. It was originally a dark Mediterranean home, but Kim and Kanye redid every single inch of the house, and now it’s minimalistic and modern.”

The mansion, which the pair originally bought for $11 million in early 2013, is a six-bedroom, eight-bathroom home that spans 9,000 square feet and “reflects both their personalities.” Altman adds: “They’re visionaries. They’re artists in what they do, and the house really reflects their personalities and their styles at this time in their life.”

Among the home’s most prominent features are large automated sliding windows and doors to the main room—rumored to be some of the largest glass windows ever created for a single-family home in the state of California—as well as a glamorous pool that buyer Acton gravitated toward immediately.

“Marina was very specific about what she wanted in the home she was looking for,” Altman says. “She said, ‘I want to be inspired . . . I want a place that feels right, has a good energy, is reflective of where I want to go with my career.’ And after spending some time with her, I said, ‘I have the perfect house,’ and it happened to be Kim and Kanye’s.”

In addition to the stunning, sleek aesthetic, Altman says Acton was also drawn to other aspects of the home, including the possibility of installing a recording studio in the home to help her burgeoning singing career.

“She loved the kids’ rooms, because she eventually wants to bring her kids up there,” Altman says. “But her focus now is more on the studio.”

Altman says the ultimate dealmaker for the buyer, however, was having Kardashian personally show the home and explain the couple’s reasons for updating the property the way they had.
