The Lions earned back-to-back NFC North titles and a coveted No. 1 playoff seed with a 31-9 win over the Minnesota Vikings Sunday at Ford Field.
Why it matters: As the NFC’s top seed, Detroit (15-2) gets a round 1 playoff bye and home field advantage up to the Super Bowl in New Orleans.
- The bye week will give the injury-depleted Lions more rest before their first playoff game.
- It’s the first time the Lions have been a No. 1 seed.
State of play: Detroit’s defense was the unsung hero of the game, limiting Minnesota to just three field goals.
- Running back Jahmyr Gibbs ran for 139 yards and had four touchdowns, giving him 20 on the season, a franchise record.
What’s next: The Lions’ first playoff game will be in the NFC Divisional round Jan. 18-19 at Ford Field against the lowest-seeded team remaining, per the Free Press.
