Prince George’s Co. Public Schools employee killed in Laurel shooting

LAUREL, Md. — Police say an Oxon Hill man is in custody for shooting another man to death in Laurel on Tuesday. Darius Jackson, 31, is charged with the murder of 58-year-old Jerome Stocks. Stocks was an employee at Prince George’s County Public Schools.

The shooting happened around 9 p.m. in the 12000 block of Silverbirch Lane in the unincorporated section of Laurel. When officers arrived they found Stocks outside, shot multiple times. 

Investigators learned that Jackson shot Stocks over a dispute with Stocks’ family member. Police say the two men knew each other, but did not give further details about circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Members of PGPD’s Fugitive Unit took Jackson into custody on Wednesday. He is charged with first- and second-degree murder and related charges, according to police.
