JD Vance was sworn in as the 50th vice president of the United States during Monday’s intimate inauguration ceremony inside the Rotunda of the U.S. Capitol.
Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, who counts Second Lady Usha Vance among his employees, swore Vance in as vice president in the presence of his family, President Donald Trump and other officials.
While taking the oath, Vance placed his hand on a Bible that belonged to his great-grandmother, which he got from his “Mamaw” when he left home for the Marines in 2003 and vowed to support and defend the Constitution of the United States. For the ceremony, Vance wore a navy blue Italian suit custom made for inauguration by his longtime tailor in suburban Cincinnati.
