When is Inauguration Day 2025?
The inauguration ceremony will be held on Monday, Jan. 20, 2025 at the U.S. Capitol building in Washington D.C.
What happens on Inauguration Day?
Planned by the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies, events include the swearing-in, the inaugural address and the pass in review. There are other events leading up to and after the inauguration, including the Inaugural Parade and Inaugural Balls.
What is the presidential oath of office?
Around noon on Inauguration Day, the president-elect recites the following oath in accordance with Article II, Section I of the U.S. Constitution:
“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.”
The vice-president elect will be sworn before the president-elect and will repeat the same oath of office as U.S. senators, representatives and other federal employees:
“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God.”

Donald Trump won a second term in office, defeating Kamala Harris in the 2024 race for the White House.
It was a decisive win after polls showed Trump and Harris competing in a razor-close election. But enough Americans in pivotal states were won over by Trump’s focus on inflation and immigration to propel him back to the White House. Trump’s victory also comes after he faced two assassination attempts over the summer.
